Well, unless you lived in a cave in the side of a mountain in the Himalayas this past week, you know that Southern California was on fire. We were never in any real danger, though the externality of fires was surely felt. If you click on the picture, I circled the fire out of the 18 that was closest to us (thanks to the earth observatory for the picture). With the loss of air quality and falling ash all over the place, the garden was cooped up inside the house for the past few days. Not only can the garden not go outside, but it affects the gardener's allergies. And when the gardener is miserable, so is the garden. The gardener and I would really like to share our feelings with the people who decided to start this fire. Friday and Saturday, though, brought relief to our area and we were able to get outside and play.
Other news, we got to take pictures of the latest addition to the garden; our banana! We don't know if it will be a boy or girl banana, but it measures about a week ahead of it's due date, just like dragonfly and ladybug. All is well on that front.
Friday night, we had our ward trunk-or-treat and chili cook off. I volunteered for the pie eating contest (big mistake). I thought it was a slice of pie, but oh how I was mistaken. It was a whole 8" pumpkin pie. Anyways, through much suffering and discomfort, I won. The key was to flip the pie upside down and out of it's tin to eat the crust first. Once the crust was out of the way, it was relatively easy to eat the filling. Score one point for the tall skinny people of the world. Don't try and out eat us!!

So if you were experiencing an externality, doesn't that mean that someone was experiencing a benefit from the fires without fully paying for it? What benefit is this?
I'd also like to point out that the word-verification letter for this comment spell "MyChiq"
Obviously, the person who set the fire did not face the full social cost of his/her action. Otherwise, the fire would not have been produced.
Glad the fires were not too close adn that you are all well!
The Santa Ana winds is what really sets my allergies off this time of year. The ash/dust/smoke in the air only aggravates my symptoms more. Luckily I am still able to use my "Flonase" while pregnant. One more reason I will not miss CA when we leave.
Banana???!! :)
Didn't know you won the pie eating contest! My dubious congrats.
I wasn't in the same round as P, so we weren't in direct competition. My competition wasn't as difficult as his.
So by choosing a banana I'm assuming that your betting on the baby looking just like MiracleGro. Tall and skinny! Good job on the pie eating contest. Did you feel like you were going to vomit for the next 24 hours?
Actually, it was just that night that was a little queasy. The next day there was a lingering sensation of a full stomach, but it was business as usual.
Hey Gardner did you get Cutsey Boots voice mail asking for Ladybug? Today she was walking around saying Ladybug's name and that she wanted to go see her. I had told her about Ladybug on Sunday and she hasn't forgotten. The only picture I had handy to show her was from Em's wedding. I'll have to get her on here to show her a picture of Ladybug. Hope we can get them together in the next year to play.
Yes, I got the message, but I could not understand what she was saying. I can't wait to get them together, but I have a feeling they will be partners in crime. :)
